Winnie the Pooh has always been one of my all time favorite characters. I also felt a sort of an attraction to poor ole Eeyore but it was Pooh who held my heart. I was delighted to find the post on copyblogger by  James Chartrand, The Winnie the Pooh Guide to Blogging. Six great lessons on blogging using our lovable Pooh.

Lesson 4, a very important lesson and one many beginner bloggers often overlook  : “It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn’t use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like “What about lunch?”.  Mr. Chartrand explains how Pooh often listened to Owl as he talked over his head , only to have to ask for clarification in the end.  When you are blogging make an effort not to talk down to your audience but also do not talk at such a level they need a dictionary to understand what you are trying to communicate. The fact is they won’t look it up and they won’t come back.

Most readers can decide in the first few sentences if they are willing to invest their time in your post. Give them a reason to stay around. I was recently listening to a podcast on how to save an hour a day and one suggestion was to have all your blogs pulled into Google Reader and then quickly scan them looking for something interesting. People are scanning your blogs looking for something to catch their eye. Write your blogs with this in mind. Give them a picture, break up the text and if your content suits the format, use a list format. Remember the lesson from the silly ole bear, keep it simple.
